The Column Phuket quickly became an institution, a place you should not miss when looking for a venue to party in Phuket Town. Located on Takuapa Road, close to the old town, this bar/restaurant fills with locals and tourists alike very quickly, regardless of the day of the week. For a good reason.
First off, The Column Phuket offers a live band from Monday to Sunday, playing all the classics from Thailand and beyond. The music is certainly not here to make you dance, but you’ll be surrounded with people singing along and enjoying their night. You will have the possibility to sit downstairs, where the real atmosphere is at, or upstairs if you prefer a quieter setting, though the word quiet here is to be used with caution. It also has a small terrace up front, which can accommodate around 20 people.
The venue can be considered a mix between a restaurant and a bar, though the food here is really present just to make you drink longer. It serves good Thai food, alongside a few international dishes, such as the flambeed sausages, French fries with Japanese mayonnaise and pork leg. The Thai food is also surprisingly good, and offers a good mix of appetizers and dishes to be shared among friends.
The drinks are reasonably priced, considering the place comes with live music. They have some good deals when ordering by the bottle, with most party-goers ordering a bottle of SangSom, a traditional Thai rum, with a selection of mixers to go with.
Smokers do gather outside of the venue, so if the smoke disturbs you, you better call early and book a table inside, as the interior is non-smoking. Parking may be an issue as usual with the old town, so you better leave your car on Bangkok Road, or order a Grab as you will most likely be drinking if you visit that place anyway.
