Phuket hotels fight for their survival as economic fallout is expected

PHUKET: New research by consulting group C9 Hotelworks points to Covid-19’s crippling implications for Phuket hotels with airport arrivals plunging, the Phuket Model stuttering, and 50,000 jobs expected to be lost if there are no overseas visitors this year. Phuket’s hotel industry is reaching breaking point and drastic economic support from the government is needed for it to survive the high season, urge industry leaders. Laguna Phuket strengthens healthcare partnership with Bangkok Hospital Phuket

Animal activist petitions Thai government to help starving elephants

BANGKOK: Susan Field, a British citizen residing in Koh Samui, today presented a petition with almost 65,000 signatures to the Thai Government today asking them to provide urgent financial aid for elephants and their handlers who have received no income since tourists disappeared at the start of COVID-19. “The future for elephants in Thailand looks extremely grim. In order to make a few baht, the mahouts may take their elephants back to begging in the streets or other cruel and degrading activities,” said Field, adding “Do these magnificent animals, your national symbol, deserve this? Phuket tourism representatives announce projects to revive the industry

PHUKET: A tourism press conference titled ‘Finally We Meet Again!’ was held yesterday (June 9) at the Jungceylon Shopping Mall on the first day of Phuket’s beaches re-opening, since all beaches across the island had been locked down with regards to the COVID-19 situation. The Phuket’s branch of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, alongside Patong Municipality and Phuket Tourism Association, announced their joined project ‘Phuket Great Time’ (www.phuketgreattime.com), which is a channel where local tourism-related businesses can promote themselves. Laguna Phuket named DPE’s Honorable Contributor in Sports and Exercise
