Chillva Market

If you are looking for an eclectic choice of food, fashion, and fun, then Chillva Market may be your best bet in town. Located in the area of Samkong, in Phuket Town, this market is only a few years old and was built by piling a series of shipping containers altogether. This newly-thought design for the island was immediately a hit with the locals, who found in Chillva Market a great place for shopping and entertainment.

The fact that it is much smaller than the week-end market makes it easier to explain the different zones; the bottom-left  area is where clothes are sold. You will find a larger selection of women’s clothes overall, though it is still possible to find men apparel, too. From eccentric fashion to something more traditional, one similarity between the shops is the everyday low cost of these items, which is why it is often packed with locals choosing their favorite brands.

The lower right corner is the accessories/souvenirs area, which offers everything from socks to lamps to bags. Again, prices are reasonable, and you can always hustle for lower prices. Behind this area can be found the main stage, where bands often play during the evenings.

The top-right corner covers the restaurants and food areas. There are plenty of stalls that sell various food and snacks, as well as more conventional restaurants, with proper seating and menus. We love the Yakiniku’s place, which so far has offered us quality beef every time!

Finally, the last zone of the Chillva Market is the party place; approximately ten different bars, all fighting for their music to be listened to, compete with each other at the back of the market. It is a fun place to relax after shopping, and you can even climb to the second floor for a better view of the area.

While there is parking at the back of the market, it is often packed with cars and motorbikes right at the start of the market; it is advised to come in early to secure a spot.
